How to use Planning Poker
Planning Poker is an agile estimation technique: each team member secretly votes on the complexity of a user story, then everyone reveals at the same time. Gaps between votes trigger discussion (why the gap?) before a new round of voting.
- Enter the user story to estimate
- List the participants (one name per line)
- Pick the card deck (Fibonacci, T-shirt, etc.)
- Each participant clicks their name then their card (votes stay hidden)
- Click Reveal to show all votes, the average and the spread
- New round to estimate the next story (team and deck are kept)
Why these decks?
The values are non-linear: as complexity grows, our ability to estimate precisely shrinks. The Fibonacci sequence and its variants reflect this growing uncertainty. T-shirt sizes are great for early-stage rough estimation.
